Good days are measured by good coffee and luckily that has been plentiful for me in the last few weeks in Melbourne. With great cafes on almost every corner, it’s easy to just stick to a select few. However, new places are opening up all the time, one of which is Good Measure- and I implore you to go.
Tucked in the strip of kitsch Italian restaurants on Lygon Street, Carlton, Good Measure brings a welcome dose of minimalism to this area. It also brings much needed, good coffee (with space to actually sit down.) Having just opened a few months ago, the cafe fit-out isn’t fully complete yet. However, it’s this simplistic decor that makes it so charming and may we say, so very Melbourne.
Inside, the cafe light streams in through the large open windows meaning that it’s a great place to settle with a book in the morning. There’s also a courtyard out the back for socializing and wifi, so it’s laptop friendly.
The floor is uncluttered with little other than a record player and the coffee machine on display. Coffee is by Code Black and brewed to perfection. If you are going to order one drink here it needs to be the Mont Blanc. It’s a delicious iced filter coffee, with cream, orange and nutmeg: not usually my kind of drink, but I can’t stop thinking about it.
The food menu features a variety of sandwiches and a couple of sweet treats including the housemade Philly cheesecake.
To add to the cafe’s sex appeal, from 5 pm to midnight Friday to Sunday, Good measure doubles up as a cocktail bar. Discs are spun on the record player while you enjoy a Cherry Ripe Old Fashioned, a coconut margarita and some bar snacks. We’re obsessed!
